Savoir-faire

Creator and restorer of metal works, decorative locksmithing, ironwork, and fine metalwork.

From the 18th century Hôtel Particulier to more contemporary settings, Ateliers VLD has been pursuing the art of excellence for many decades. Every project is viewed as a challenge, with a constant focus on listening to our clients. We bring the highest level of care and precision to the design, production, and finishing of our work.

In our workshops, we craft and shape a variety of metals, including brass, bronze, copper, and steel. Each member of our team, whether an artisan locksmith or blacksmith, has received exemplary training and is fully aware of the company’s high standards, ensuring that every task is executed flawlessly and in line with long-standing French traditions.

“Gates, railings, lighting, furniture… every piece we create is an integral part of an architectural vision. Artistic ironworkers begin with raw materials : iron bars and carbon, which are transformed from A to Z into decorative elements or finely crafted furniture. Forging is at the heart of the process ; it requires a true passion for the craft !”

Ateliers VLD is widely recognized for its expertise in the restoration of heritage landmarks such as the Musée du Louvre, the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, and the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. We regularly contribute to the restoration of historic ironwork features on these exceptional monuments.

Restoring heritage sites requires specialized expertise, and with over 50 years of experience and a rich legacy, we offer our clients proven expertise in restauration of historical metalwork.

The traditional French style, particularly from the 17th and 18th centuries, is globally recognized and remains a benchmark for architects designing projects inspired by French monuments and châteaux. From the outset, Ateliers VLD has specialized in this classical French tradition and built its reputation through major projects carried out both in France and internationally. As heirs to the French ironwork legacy, we apply the highest standards to every aspect of our work. Each final piece is carefully conceived, designed, drafted, and forged by a team of exceptional craftsmen.

Ateliers VLD is constantly striving to push the boundaries of its craft while remaining attuned to contemporary trends.

Our teams are always on the lookout for fresh ideas. We go to great lengths to deliver exceptional and timeless results for our clients – whether through bold contemporary designs, innovative concepts, or by exploring new techniques such as chasing, embossing, acid etching, or flame-finishing. Our firm collaborates with some of the most renowned designers worldwide, most often on private commissions, but also on luxury hotels, châteaux, and prestigious villas.

From the pencil to production

Whether featuring arabesques, rosettes, volutes or acanthus leaves, the first step in our creative process – just as in any decorative art form – is the initial pattern design, carefully drawn by hand with precise lines and balanced compositions. Although modern technical plans are created digitally, the artistic design stage remains a manual process.

It demands a deep understanding of historical styles and references, along with refined artistic skill, to ensure that the outcome of this essential phase meets both aesthetic and technical expectations.

Sculptors, modelers, and ironworkers bring these drawings to life, guided by the elegance and realism of each line.
The curves, scrolls, and flourishes must all align perfectly with the intended style.

The expert etchers of the 17th and 18th centuries have left behind exquisite examples of ornamental drawing, which
continue to inspire today’s metal artisans.
